The first jam of 1999 slowly, patiently, methodically builds and plateaus into a phantasmically pschedelicious soundcape full of wondrous, mellifluous stories that eventually coalesce into a mystical-yet-triumphant foam, bespeckled by bedazzlingly exquisite riffs by Trey on Gin's melodic theme, which soulfully concludes this orchestral dance.

Back on the Train

Debut. Instrumental bridge (jam) between 2nd and 3rd verses, and an instrumental outro after 3rd verse.

Maze

"Bathtub Gin" tease from Trey. Excellent version, and at the end, Page, Trey and Fish enter into a mock duel with several reprises of the "Maze" signature lick.

Limb By Limb

A different vibe to this version, it has a subdued, almost melancholy quality to it despite being well played. An unusual take on "Limb" and worth checking out.

Free

Starts in customary manner, with a lot of bass and nice Trey. A kind of echo-filled groove develops, very mellow.

My Left Toe

Debut version out of -> "Bug".

Setlist notes

This gig featured the Phish debuts of Back on the Train and Bug as well as the debut of My Left Toe. Trey teased Super Bad in Tube. Maze contained an I Can't Turn You Loose tease from Page, a Bathtub Gin tease from Trey, and ended with several reprises of the song’s signature lick in a mock duel fashion between Trey and Page. A revised stage setup debuted at this show with Page, Mike, and Trey aligned from front left to right and Fish to rear center.
